Echocardiography
Echocardiography is a safe, non invasive technique using ultrasound imaging to examine the heart.
It provides information regarding heart chamber size, chamber function , valvular motion and function as well as direction of blood flow and haemodynamic information.
The reporting Radiologist reviews video loops acquired to a DVD when making their report. Examinations are performed by qualified ASAR accredited Cardiac Sonographers using the latest Philips "IU22" ultrasound machines at our Greensborough, Reservoir and Lalor clinics.
Examinations times are approximately 30 - 45 minutes.
No patient preparation is required.
Currently we are unable to provide this examination to children under the age of 12 and refer these patients to the The Royal Children's Hospital.
