General Radiology
Naturally we provide a wide range of general radiology examinations.
OPG and Cephalography are available at every clinic, Eltham OPG only.
One of our own Radiographers has developed an superior-inferior projection
of the upper dentition to replace the conventional method used by dentists
in which an occlusal film is placed in the mouth. Mr Ong's method uses
a radiographic cassette which reduces the radiation dose by approximately
20 times! No surprise that he named the method Ong's View.
OPG machines are useful in imaging the Temporomandibular Joints using
tomography.
Podiatrists will be interested to know Radar Medical Imaging has platforms
for examining feet and ankles. These allow AP and Lateral views under
weight-bearing. Bundoora, Greensborough, Heidelberg, Lalor and Reservoir
clinics can all perform this examination. Views are obtained with the
patient in their normal stance.
Erect spinal radiography as requested by Chiropractors and Osteopaths
are recorded using a 48 inch (some measurements can't let go of the
British system!) cassette for the AP projections.
Nearly all our clinics are equipped with this cassette. Aluminium filters
are placed over the x-ray tube to absorb excess radiation giving an
even density from the thin cervical spine to the thicker region of the
pelvis.
Fluoroscopic or Screening room procedures range from Barium studies
through to Steroid injections and Arthrography. Arthrography patients
are often then imaged on the CT scanner or MRI scanner. Be assured,
our steriliser is Type B which meets AS4815 and European Standard prEN13060
for small steam sterilisers. The vacuum stages ensure sterilisation
is complete even inside long, hollow instruments.
