Practice History

Radar Medical Imaging had its beginnings in 1976 when
Dr Salim Merchant established his general radiology practice, North Suburban Radiodiagnostic, in the Lalor shopping centre.
He was joined in partnership by Dr Norman Forster and Dr Tony Kwiatkowski in 1980 and they expanded with practices in Eltham, Bundoora (at the Bundoora and District Private Hospital, later to become Northpark Private Hospital) and Greensborough (at the Diamond Valley Community Hospital).
The partnership continued to expand to the current seven partners, with Dr Merchant retiring in 1995. It now also includes practices at Heidelberg, Northland (Preston) and Reservoir Private Hospital.

The practices were first grouped under the name Radar Medical Imaging in 1992. The company has pioneered the provision of high technology medical imaging into Melbourne's northern region with the introduction of:

· Ultrasound in 1980
· Mammography in 1985
· CT scanning in 1985
· Colour Doppler Ultrasound in 1988
· Dual head Nuclear Medicine scanning in 1996
· Multi-slice spiral CT in 1996
· MRI in 1999, and
· Myocardial Perfusion imaging - 2005

In 1992, Radar Medical Imaging was a member of a submission to the Victorian Government proposing the establishment of what has become the St Vincent's BreastScreen service and since 1994 has operated Greensborough BreastScreen.

In 1991 Bundoora Radiology was relocated from Northpark Private Hospital to its current location in Plenty Road to prevent corporate take-over.
To this day Radar Medical Imaging maintains its status as the only group of Independent comprehensive medical imaging practices in northern Melbourne.
